One of the first workshops I ever ran was called ‘Success & Abundance’.
I wanted to talk about how success means something different to each person, and to bust through some limiting beliefs about money. The success part went brilliantly, but when we got to the abundance part, everything started to fall apart. The word ‘abundance’ meant something different to my workshop participants, and no one wanted to talk about money! When they heard ‘abundance’, they thought of nature and food and plenty. Not of money. We weren’t talking about the same thing, even though we were using the same word.
People signed up for my workshop based on what they understood by the word ‘abundance’ and they were very happy to talk about the abundance of nature and the like. What I wanted to teach them is not what they expected – or wanted.
So why is your personal abundance definition so important?
Because you can’t have a goal without defining it. It’s difficult to aim for abundance, success, fulfilment without understanding what those things mean to you. Because how will you ever know if you find them?
When I started digging deeper into my own beliefs about success and abundance, I discovered so many interesting things. I was carrying with me the belief that success always means money, so I can never be successful until I’m rich. I was carrying the attitude that abundance is only meant for a few, not for everyone. I was carrying around the belief that making money is hard. I was carrying around the belief that success means one solid thing – not the combination of smaller projects that I always thrived on.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself about your attitude to success and abundance:
- What does being successful mean to your parents and other family members who were part of your upbringing?
- When have you felt truly, joyfully successful?
- What do you think of rich people?
- Name a few people that you think of as successful. Why do your think of them as successful? What makes them so?
The purpose of thinking this way is to strip away what you think you should feel about these words. The idea is to separate yourself from the shoulds and to remember that it’s your life and you get to define success and abundance for yourself. And your definition is the only one that matters.
If you want to start the process or go deeper with the support of a beautiful group, we’re focusing on success and abundance in The Creation Space in March. Work with intention and intuition to make life easier and more fun! Learn more here.

Here’s to your success! 🙂

Very fitting and striking! I have been questioning for a while why I always have jobs where I have to work so so hard until I fall over… recently I discovered that of course this is a way I choose to work, overloading myself with responsibilities and creating more work for myself as I go… but with your blog it points out that that is exactly what I am taught by my parent… the example of always working very hard with slight recognition…. it’s very enlightening…and time to let go! I already told myself that I want a job where I can create space to keep my mind creative, to take some time to breath, go outside and return with a fresh outlook instead of 7,5 hrs of brainstakingly answering emails, solving problems and try to avoid collisions… NO MORE! 🙂
The working hard thing is a big one, and a great one to kick to the curb! Make it easy and fun, Grace! 🙂
Great questions!
Thank you!
Such good questions, answering them brings delicious transformation. I’m glad you’re doing this important work.
I’m glad too. The world is so noisy, it’s hard to hear your self in it…
Great post, Joanna! I was raised in an environment where everyone believes you have to work hard to get by. We never lacked anything, but we never had (financial) abundance either. I always felt different, but I bet there are still hidden beliefs in me.
There are hidden beliefs in everyone, Ana! And they tend to come up in layers, one at a time. I’ve been doing so much work on this and am always surprised but each one.
