what would you attempt to doI used to dream about doing something that mattered. I thought I was special and that I could change the world.

Then I was told to grow up, see the world as it is. Without magic.

But all those people who encouraged me to fit in, work hard, get good grades, get a steady job, get married, have a child, they were wrong. Those things didn’t make me as happy as they were supposed to. I still missed having purpose, and feeling a connection to something bigger. It’s not that those things didn’t matter, and I was mostly happy. But I missed not changing the world.

[Tweet “We stop dreaming big to fit into society’s norms. There’s no fun in that http://www.createyourworld.me/2014/04/29/what-ive-learn…t-dreaming-big/ ‎@joannahennon”]

Little by little, I started dreaming again. I did not feel guilty for wanting more or something different. I knew that this was my path because it felt good.

Learning to dream big has brought magic back into my life.

I feel like I’m working towards something that matters. I feel I can change the world.

Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

  • if you don’t let yourself dream, your life will never change because you won’t be open to possibilities.
  • dreaming big doesn’t equal instant overwhelm. I may dream of becoming an author, but I don’t put ‘write a book’ on my to-do list. I choose something smaller and manageable, and I trust that it’ll take me where I need to go.
  • I’m not sure that you can be an expert in dreaming big. I think that different blocks show up at different times, and just because you’ve tackled one doesn’t mean you’re done.

I choose to dream big and to create change. All those things I wanted to do when I was younger, I can still do them. I was right about the world – it IS magical, wonderful, full of possibility. I am happier when I remember this.

How about you? Does dreaming big dreams make you happy?

Let me know in the comments!

Love,
