Yesterday my friend Alex and I went to the Galway Mind Body Experience. To be honest, I wouldn’t have gone if she hadn’t wanted to go. I went a few years ago and it was alright but nothing more. But Alex is only visiting for a few days, and loved the sound of it, so we went. It turned out to be an absolutely life-changing experience for us both - proving that when we’re willing to be guided we’ll always end up in exactly the right place.

We usually think of guidance as coming from outside ourselves, from the Universe, or our higher self, or our spirit guides. But in fact sometimes the most valuable guidance comes from within, in the form of desires.

I’ve already blogged about how some desires are soul nudges.

This post is another example, though it played out differently. Let me tell you about it.

When Alex and I went inside the venue, we didn’t really have a plan. We thought we’d walk around the stalls, see what workshops were available, maybe get our palms read.

Within the first couple of minutes, we came across a table with a ‘past-life regression’ sign, and and immediately claimed the first two slots.

Now, I’ve been suuuuuuper interested in past lives since I was a little girl, but have never had a past-life regression. I’ve had plenty of past-life readings, and several past-life dreams and other related experiences where something from a different life was bleeding into this one, but never regression. To be honest, regression has always freaked me out a bit - the past lives I do have knowledge of weren’t pleasant and I don’t really want to relive the details of something horrible.

But at the same time, here was an opportunity to experience something interesting, in person, in a crowded hall. It felt safe, you know? Plus it was only a 30-minute slot, and regression usually takes a few hours, so I figured, how intense could it be?

Before I tell you what happened, I need to mention that I wasn’t feeling well. My peri-menopause symptoms include lots of dizziness, and I was woozy that morning. I’d just spent some time doing EFT in the bathroom to try and shift some of it, but it wasn’t going. So I had to show up as I was, wooziness and all.

When I arrived, Dermot told me to sit down opposite him, facing the wall so that I wasn’t distracted by the passersby. He then took a deep breath closed his eyes. He was clearly preparing for the regression.

He opened his eyes and told me that he’s being shown a pipe and a tap somewhere above my head, and the tap is open and energy is flowing into me through my crown chakra. But there’s a blockage somewhere below, so the energy can’t move further and it’s all swirling around my head at forehead level.

I was floored. The way he described the swirling energy unable to move further down is EXACTLY what it felt like for me when I felt woozy.

Like EXACTLY.

Dermot said he’d try and unblock the blockage so the energy could flow down.

I said sure, that feels exactly right, but did he know I actually booked a past life regression?

He laughed and said that the past life regression sign shouldn’t be there, obviously he can’t do one in 20 minutes. LOL. Nicely played, Universe!

We continued with whatever it was he was doing.

I didn’t really know what was happening but I could feel energy moving, shifting.

Once in a while, he’d open his eyes and say something.

You’re walking around naked” - true, I’m not great at protecting my energetic field.

Your whole family is in there with you” - true, I’ve had to do a lot of work to release my birth family’s expectations and judgements, but I’m not done.

You’re not present in your body” - true, always true, I’m so much more comfortable floating around the spiritual realms instead of grounding in the physical space.

Someone said something to you at a workshop, and you rejected it. That’s where this block comes from” - it didn’t feel untrue, but couldn’t think of anything specific that matched this. I intentionally decided to trust him though, because everything else he said was spot on.

At some point my face felt wet and I realised I’d been crying, probably for a while.

I remembered the workshop he’d referred to. I’d attended it in my early twenties, and I was taught to do energy work similar to what he was doing with me, feeling into the energy body with my hands and intuition. I’d unblocked someone’s throat chakra, which released a whole lot of pent up feelings about their marriage. It was a lot, and when I was told that I was a powerful healer and needed to use this gift in the world, I said no. According to Dermot, this is when I blocked the energy from flowing through my body. I decided I didn’t want it. And I couldn’t even remember that it had happened.

By the end of my session I felt like a different person. No wooziness at all, and a new kind of peace inside me.

I felt blissed out, like Willow on the magicks in season 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

To me, the most amazing thing about this experience wasn’t the energy work itself, although that feels absolutely life-changing, and I will most definitely go and buy everything Dermot has on offer.

The most amazing thing has to be how I ended up having this life-changing experience in the first place. I was guided there, and I’m so happy that I went with the flow, let it take me to exactly what I needed at this point in my life.

I had no plans to go to the Galway Mind Body Experience, but Alex was visiting and wanted to go, so we went.

I would NEVER have signed up for an energy healing or anything shamanic. NEVER.

I immediately signed up for a past-life regression though, and got not what I wanted, but exactly what I needed.

Alex and I finished the day by attending Dermot’s talk on past lives and something he said really stood out to me.

That most people want to learn about past lives because they want to be more spiritual, but we’re already spiritual. What we need is to learn to be physically present in our bodies and in our lives. What we need is to learn to be human.

I’m hoping that my clogged pipeline has been unblocked, and that I’ll now find it easier to be fully here in the human experience, too.
