I first met Sam Livermore online, as one does, and then in person at the Lucky Bitch event in London just a few weeks ago. We were chatting and she told me about one of her projects, Global Love Letters. I was so touched by the idea of this beautiful practice, I immediately asked her to write about her experience for Create Your World. 3 years ago, love found us anonymously through Miguel Frier finding a love note on the way home after an event by Simon Paul Sutton on Valentine’s day. He called Simon and was so excited that Simon said, let’s film it and share your story to the world. This note said:
Even though I do not know you
Even though I may never meet you,
laugh with you, cry with you or kiss you
I love you
with all of my heart
On that day Global Love Letters was born.
I found the video just after it was shared online and it inspired me so much to write my own letters. I had been doing it for a while when Simon put out a call for volunteers to run a stand for him at the Mind Body Spirit festival and I got involved.
It really has had a massive impact on my life. When you use this as your own personal daily practice, or weekly practice to connect to that love within and then put that out to the world it seriously changes your whole energy.
It’s so easy to write a letter, you just write To You, For You, or Hello you and sign it with I LOVE YOU, and whatever you say in the letter is what you want the person finding it to read. We personally never leave any links to the website, either. This is a message of unconditional love with no expectation of anything in return. This makes the message more pure, also you are writing them for yourself and to yourself and when you connect to your truth and speak from the heart, it resonates with every other living thing, so I know whatever I write is meant for the person reading it. On the envelope we write ‘This is for you, open me’ or something like that. Whoever it’s for will pick it up as they will know it’s for them!
Sometimes I write a letter and I’m not conscious of what I’m writing, it just comes out and it can be a page long, when I read it back I think wow that’s just what I needed today, other times I am more aware and think, what does my heart want me to know. It may be a few lines or something longer, but it’s always perfect whatever the message. I know that, whatever I am feeling, it will resonate with someone else as we are all connected.
We just celebrated Global Love Letters’ 3rd Birthday. There is a core group of us creating small events around the UK and also many others around the world contributing to sharing the love through the letters. I am so excited to be at the Mind Body Spirit Wellbeing show in London for the 3rd time this May, it’s such a joy when people come back to us saying ‘I found one of your letters, how did you know that’s what I needed to hear!’
So what are you waiting for, all you need is a pen, paper and envelope it really is that easy!
