Today, I have the pleasure of welcoming Donna Higton to Create Your World. Donna works with women to help them live life to the fullest – I resonate with this so much and love what she does. If you want to create a fun, enjoyable life, then you must choose for that life. Make the changes that need to be made. Get rid of what doesn’t fit with this vision. Take responsibility and create your world (if you’re ready to see what you know about this at soul level, this workshop is for you).
In this post, Donna talks about how important it is to love yourself. Read on and let us know what you think. And make sure you go to www.donnaonthebeach.com to grab your free copy of Donna’s new book!)

You? You’re AWESOME! The very best you there ever was. What’s not to love? Seriously, I know that you have a thousand examples of how you’re not awesome. I know that you know all your character defects intimately and that you remember every incident where you messed up or made a fool of yourself. (And at the same time conveniently forget all your wonderful characteristics and all the times you got it right.)
It’s hard to fall in love with yourself when you know how flawed and imperfect you are. Let me rephrase that: it’s hard to fall in love with yourself when you only concentrate on those flaws and imperfections…and when you only see them as ‘bad’. Many of your ‘bad’ characteristics have positive interpretations too, and you can learn to love your shyness, your stubbornness, your impatience.
I didn’t love my shyness, until someone else pointed out the beauty of shy, the vulnerability of it, the strength in shy. There are many other characteristics I didn’t love…until I learned to love them. Stubbornness and bloody mindedness make me very persistent, a trait I needed to keep my business going for over a decade. Impatience makes me more likely to take action. My sharp tongue exercises my wit.
I could keep going. And there are some traits I’m still looking for the positive spin on, and finding a way to love – short temperedness and general irritability being one. I don’t suffer fools gladly, that’s the only plus I can come up with. But I do accept that I am short tempered and irritable at times – it helps me to manage my self-care, because if I don’t take care of myself, I’m like a bear with a sore arse.
All of the things I’ve made a mess of, I learned from. They’ve shaped my character, made me who I am. And I love and accept myself anyway. And you need to too. You’re going to have to put up with yourself your whole life, so you might as well find a way to fall head over heels with the weird and wonderful individual that is you.
There’s not another one of you in the whole world. You’re unique and special and you deserve to have the love and backing of yourself. This is a definite process – I didn’t love myself at all…and then I learned to over many years. I learned to notice the good things about me. I learned to reframe the ‘bad’ stuff and see the light aspect of a characteristic that’s seen as defective or deficient.
So start the process here. Learn to fall in love with you. Beautiful, unique, special, wonderful you.
